There's lots to do for active people from digging clams to riding bikes or hiking. LL Bean is not too far away for a day trip.
This campground does have great views, but that is all it has to offer. Not much around to speak of, it really is in the middle of nowhere it seems. Residents from in town when we told them where we were staying had no idea this campground even existed. The bathhouses were filthy! They were inconveniently located, and only had one shower in one and 2 in the other. The beach...not really. I would not call this a beach by any means. The bugs are insane! Even with bug spray, they tore our family up. We had plans to stay for 3 nights and left a day early. We did try to make the best of it, we drove 9 hours to get here, but just could not take it anymore. I feel like I got ripped off. We were not loud, obnoxious, rude in any way, and thought the staff that we did see were friendly. I am sure there were better campgrounds, but being from out of state we really had no clue. This was our first trip to Maine.
You can get a nice lobster roll down the road and There's a awesome country store near the fire department at the end of the road that had breakfast sandwiches and coffee if you don't feel like cooking eggs in the morning.
We are heading back again this year with our extended family, and hoping to make it a yearly tradition! We dug for clams at low tide, (licence can be purchased in the office) kayaked in the ocean, roasted marshmallows over our campfire, and had a cozy cabin to retreat to at the end of the day. The children enjoyed biking around the campground, and searching for hermit crabs in the tide pools. The idyllic beach at sunrise is the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee. Drive a short distance to find casual dining and plenty of delicious lobster. Can't wait to return!
Thanks but no thanks.
I've been coming here for over 5 years now. It was recommended to me by my late stepfather who circled it on a Delorme map of Maine and said "you've gotta go there" It's so beautiful and I love the experience and am grateful every time I go there.
What's especially great about Sagadahoc Bay is it's secluded location on Georgetown island that makes the camground a very peaceful place.
I'm so excited to be going back in September. We have been there the past 2 yrs in May and are trying the fall. We absolutely LOVE this campground and our own special site! Not telling you which one because then everyone will reserve it. There aren't many campers when we go so it's like having the whole campground to yourself. We tent camp and last yr where awakened by eagle screams!!!! The beautiful ocean, clamers and eagles, what more do you need......I forgot the lobsters!!!!! Everyone is so nice and accommodating plus they have hot showers!!!! Love, Love, Love this place.
I have a hard time rating this one. Campground needs a little upgrading but they seem to be working on it. It is waterfront and it is amazing when tide goes out but definitely not a maintained swimming beach. There's a beautiful beach next to it but you can't use it. There is a beautiful state park down the road perfect for swimming and sand play. If you want to use bath houses they aren't close... All and all not a bad experience but was not the favorite of our trip.
